“Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life.”
Michael Palin
As a continuation to this “Pacific Northwest” pre-trip planning series, I find myself wondering how to visit the Mount Rainier area. I had always wanted to visit here during the end of August to capture the wild flowers, but instead of waiting for those stars to align, I figured I would take a sneak peak at the area whilst out there during my next trip in May.
So what about you? Are you dreaming of exploring Mount Rainier National Park? Is this your first adventure to the iconic peak? This is for me! I’ve been pouring over maps, plotting out potential paths, and, let’s be real, replotting more times than I can count, all detailed over at my sister site, 50at60.
I mentioned in the last post that for my first outing to visit all 50 states in one year, my 60th around the sun, I had a rather aggressive plan of touring 6 or 7 of these large states in the Northwest. I have since trimmed that down, focusing on just 3 states, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. The only metric I am requiring myself to meet for this challenging year, is to spend 36 hours in each state. An easy bar to hit as I scratch the surface during this year of exploration that I am sure I will exceed well past for each state (except for maybe Nebraska 🤷🏻♂️
Stepping back for a moment, the tales spun over at my 50at60 site chronicle my ambitious endeavor to traverse all 50 states in the year I celebrate turning 60—a milestone I’ve dubbed 50at60. So, revisiting that initial blueprint I had sketched out (and I must admit, it was quite the masterpiece!), I found myself lost in thought one evening and concluded that perhaps a more focused approach was in order. I decided to narrow my sights to just Oregon and Washington… with an impromptu detour to Mount Rainier National Park! It seemed only natural, given its proximity and allure, and what better time than May to embark on such an expedition?
With this revised plan in mind, I again turned to ChatGPT to craft a succinct itinerary tailored for the avid photographer, complete with AI-generated visuals to spark the imagination, and thought it was only fitting to share it here on this platform. While I cherish the freedom to explore and drift, I’ve come to realize that a journey through 50 states in a single year demands a tad more forethought. Nonetheless, I’ll make sure there’s still room for a dash of spontaneity and wanderlust!
So, without further ado, let’s set forth on this adventure to Mount Rainier National Park!!!
