50 States in one year – A quest to see every state as I turn 60

I call it 50at60. In fact, that is the name of the site I decided to start, to share my research, planning, and documentation of this sort of what can only be described as a bucket list of sorts. As I have already been to most states (about 40 I think), some of these will be a revisit, but a visit none the less.

And what exactly constitutes a “visit”? Well, to give it some sort of a bar to reach or metric, I have chosen a minimum of 36 hours spent in the state. I know, an easy achievement that I am sure I will surpass with most of these visits.

So the site like I said is called 50at60.com. A quest to visit all 50 states during my 60th year on this earth. To accomplish this, I plan on taking monthly outings in somewhat carefully planned routes, loops, and efficiently planned paths as to NOT haphazardly wander about.

I have a tendency to do just that … roam! This should keep me somewhat in check 🙂

Roaming … indeed a passion of mine, but not a great time to embrace that quality of mine with such an aggressive plan like this for the year though. I am sure however, I will find the time to wander off from time to time, like the roamer I have been up until now during most of my travel trips!

Also, even a half assed plan seems like a good idea as my goal is NOT to empty my retirement savings!

I do like to wander though, but decided to take a different approach this time around, or this entire YEAR around. In fact, I started creating a couple of maps to get the journey started. My first state will be Washington as I have booked myself at the TravelCon convention / conference in Portland, Oregon in May!

I attended this before in Boston and it seemed like a perfect time to connect with like minded Nomads as well as travelers of all types to get me in the mood and focused for the year. I created this map today actually that covers 6 states. The first trip is sneaking up 🙂

I will be trying to focus on small town on this first loop, as well as most others. In fact, I did a whole month of posts of exactly that, small towns, that will be released on a daily basis over on that site as well here starting in April. Make sure and check the site out here for that. Ill try to put a tab for the small towns on the site after all the posts have been uploaded 🙂

With the help of AI, I have created some images from 6 of the first areas I hope to visit on this first leg out on the “project”. I think they came out pretty cool or at the very least, sparks the imagination!

Gig Harbor, Washington
Hood River, Washington
Dunsmuir, California
Virginia City, Nevada
Park City, Utah
Ketchum, Idaho

Will I follow these exact routes? Who know. Most likely not. They are a good start though. A good start for THIS roaming cat 🙂
